Joseph advised his chief steward to fill each of his brother's bags as full as possible with grain then replace their money in the mouths of the bag. Then he further instructed him to place his silver drinking goblet in the bag of his youngest brother. His steward did as told.
The brothers left to return home and a short while after Joseph sent his steward to pursue them and to question them in such a way as to bring fear to them and then to search them and find the moneys and the special silver goblet. The brothers repacked and returned to Joseph. Judah pleaded and begged for understanding telling Joseph the story of how they had pleaded with their father to bring Benjamin and guaranteed his safe return. Their aged father would truly die if they did not bring him back. Judah advised that he would stay and become Joseph's slave in place of Benjamin rather than kill his father with his loss.
