Sarah laughed earlier in Genesis. She laughed at the idea that a woman of her age would bear a child, especially one who had gone through menopause but now she is laughing with joy as she is holding her healthy son Isaac. Abraham circumcised him at 8 days of age. Later in the chapter Sarah got upset when she saw her husband's first child playing with her own son and demanded that Abraham make Hagar and the boy, Ishmael leave.
God spoke to Abraham and promised him both sons would father great nations and advised him to do as Sarah asked so early the next morning Abraham gave provisions to Hagar and her son and sent them on their way. As they wandered aimlessly in the wilderness of Beer-sheba they ran out of food and water but God heard the boy crying and sent them help.
Later Abraham and Abemilech made a pact at Beer-sheba.
